Named after mahuru — the Māori word for spring — the Mahuru Lilac arrives as the season turns and the days grow longer. An aviator on a baby is joyful in the best possible way. Elastic headband included, BPA-free TR90 flexible frames, UV400 Category 3 polarised lenses, and AS/NZS 1067.1:2016 certified protection. A genuine first-summer sunglass — and an unforgettable gift.
Who it fits
Mahuru is sized for ages 0–3 year olds and has an aviator shape. Most babies are ready to start wearing sunglasses from around 6 months, once they can comfortably hold their head up and tolerate something on their face. Measure across your child's face from temple to temple and check it against our size chart.
What is included
- Elastic headband included — keeps them on through pram rides, beach days and the inevitable reach-and-grab
- Virtually unbreakable — BPA-free TR90 flexible frames bend and spring back, safe even when mouthed
- UV400 Category 3 polarised— blocks 100% UVA/UVB, cuts glare from water, sand and bright surfaces
- AS/NZS 1067.1:2016 certified— the current NZ safety standard. Not all baby sunglasses sold in NZ meet this
Ages: 0–3 years · Shape: Aviator · Lens: UV400 Category 3 polarised · Frame: BPA-free TR90 · Standard: AS/NZS 1067.1:2016 · Price: $43 NZD
Care
Rinse with clean water and wipe the lenses with a soft microfibre cloth. Skip paper towels and rough fabric, which can scratch the lenses. The TR90 frame flexes and springs back, so it copes with bending, grabbing and chewing.
FAQ
What age are Mahuru sunglasses for?
Mahuru is made for ages 0–3 year olds. Most babies are ready to start from around 6 months, once they can comfortably hold their head up and tolerate something on their face.
How do they fit?
The frame is sized for 0–3 year olds and is lightweight and flexible. Measure across your child's face from temple to temple and check the size chart. All children are different, so the age range is a guide.
How does the elastic headband work?
A removable elastic headband comes in the box with every pair. It helps keep the sunglasses on through pram rides, beach days and the reach-and-grab. Use it for active outings and take it off when you don't need it.
What does the AS/NZS 1067.1:2016 certification cover?
It is the current New Zealand and Australian safety standard for sunglasses. It tests things like UV filtering, lens strength and impact resistance. Every pair of Te Rā sunglasses is certified to it, and the lenses are UV400 Category 3 polarised.
How do I clean and care for them?
Rinse with clean water and wipe with a soft microfibre cloth. The BPA-free TR90 frame is flexible, so everyday bends and knocks are fine.
